BRIEF BIOGRAPHY

Valentín Gómez-Jáuregui, born in Santander (Spain), is a Civil Engineer by the E.T.S. de Ingenieros de Caminos of Santander (Universidad de Cantabria - Spain) and the Échole de Genie Civil (Université de Liège - Belgium), specializing in Structures and Urban Planning. Afterwards, he continued his education in Queen’s University Belfast (Northern Ireland), achieving an MSc in Architecture. His project for the research thesis was focused on Tensegrity and its application to construction, which is the main subject of his works. In 2015 he obtained the PhD in Civil Engineering at the University of Cantabria and in 2018 the acreditation as "Profesor Titular de Universidad" (Associate Professor, civil servant).

From 2004 to 2009 he has developed his career in the construction sector, mainly related to R&D in structures, modular buildings, development of new products and patents, etc. Afterwards, he was the manager of a business unit in an Industrial Engineering company. Nowadays, he is an assistant teacher at the University of Cantabria, dealing with courses related to CAD, BIM, GIS and Spatial Frames, as well as doing research, as a member of the group EGICAD, about CAD, augmented reality and new configurations of double-layer tensegrity grids. At the same time, he combines this work with the tasks as a member of the of board of Ingeniería Sin Fronteras Cantabria.

With two six-year research periods, he is the author of several articles in indexed journals, book chapters, monographic books, informative articles, communications at scientific conferences, invited lectures, patents and intellectual property registrations. He has been a member of various Scientific Committees, reviewer in several high-impact international journals, and a researcher in numerous projects and collaboration agreements with private companies and public institutions. He has carried out various short, medium and long-term stays in international universities, for research, teaching and training purposes, such as Ireland (Univ. Limerick), France (Univ. Montpellier), Australia (RMIT), Portugal (Univ. Oporto and Univ. Minho), United Kingdom (Queen's University Belfast) or Belgium (Univ. Liége).

His publications include the books "Tensegrity Structures and their Application to Architecture" and “Tensegridad. Estructuras tensegríticas en Ciencia y Arte” (in Spanish), serving as a guide and reference for anyone interested in the field of Tensegrity.
